Impact:

The closing of the Garda stations around Ireland is damaging the communities that the station is built around. There have been many complaints from people that they feel a lot less secure in their homes as the stations closure means that many people don't have instant or as instant access to the Gardaí if need be.

This is a video of a civilian complaining about how he feels unsafe in his own home. As he feels that Gardaí may not be able to help him if need be.

There has been a noticeable increase in crime around the areas where the Garda stations have closed this gives the residents of this area good reason to be annoyed about the closure of the stations.

Hundreds (officially 1500) of people arrived at Alan shatters house who at the time was constituency of Justice Minister. They wanted him to reverse his plans to close the Stepaside station.
Shane Ross a Local TD said how this protest was to show those in government that the local people of Stepaside would not let this station close down without a fight. Since the closure of this station in March 2013, it has caused a spike in fear and isolation for those living in the area. The garda recently released figures that show Stepaside has become the second most burgled area in the country.
Stepaside Garda Station had been around since Stepaside was a small and town and now it has a population upwards of 20,000 people. The protesters formed a chain around the station so that they could give a moment of silence for Det Garda Adrian Donohoe who died while on duty the month prior.
The station closing should not have an impact on the amount of Gardaí around Stepaside as the majority of Gardaí that were in Stepaside are being moved to either Blackrock Garda station or Dundrum Garda Station.
